Portugal was featured this year 2022, in Spain, at the World Travel Awards, collecting 30 awards, highlighting the distinction of Best European Destination.
The Algarve was elected the Best Beach Destination, Porto stood out as the Best City Destination and Lisbon as the Best City Break Destination
Known as the “Oscars” of the Tourism sector, the World Travel Awards 2022, which is now in its 29th edition of these prestigious international awards, took place on Saturday night on the Spanish island of Mallorca and which precedes the grand finale in November.
Lisbon won four awards: Best Metropolitan Seaside Destination, Best City Break Destination and Best Cruise Destination, to which the Port of Lisbon was awarded the award for Best Cruise Port in Europe. But in the capital, there are also winning hotels such as the 1908 Lisboa Hotel (Best Design Hotel) and the Valverde Hotel (Best Luxury Boutique Hotel). Porto stood out as the Best City Destination and the Algarve was elected the Best Beach Destination. In the region there are also several award-winning hotels and resorts to be mentioned. In this European edition of the World Travel Awards 2022, the Azores were considered the Best Adventure Tourism Destination and the Paiva Walkways, the Best Tourist Attraction and Best Adventure Tourism Attraction. The Responsible Tourism award was given to the Dark Sky Alqueva project.
References are also made, in the extensive list of winners, to TAP, which won two awards, and to the company Amazing Evolution, with a portfolio of more than a dozen accommodation units in Portugal, which won the awards for Best Hotel Management and Best Boutique Hotel Operator.
The World Travel Awards are considered the “Oscars” of tourism and are the result of an online vote, in which the general public and thousands of tourism and travel professionals on a global scale participated.

It is recalled that, in 2021, Portugal had already won more than two dozen awards in the European edition of the World Travel Awards.
