Portugal is the fourth safest country in the world, according to the Global Peace Index 2021.
Safer than Portugal only Iceland, New Zealand and Denmark. This means that, if we look only at the countries of the European Union, Portugal comes in second.
The international ranking covers 163 countries. In 2014, Portugal was the 18th country.
The 2021 report reports an increase in insecurity around the world over the past 10 years and also reflects the impact of the pandemic on international safety indices.
