The revolution of October 5, 1910 inaugurates the republican regime in Portugal.
The new national symbols are adopted: A Portuguesa, a march composed in 1890 by Alfredo Keil (music) and Henrique Lopes de Mendonça (lyrics), is chosen as the National Anthem; the current version of the flag, in “green and red” pattern, is officially approved in November 1910, by the Provisional Government.
With the new Constitution of 1911, the conditions for the election of the first President of the Portuguese Republic, Manuel de Arriaga, were met.
