Criajazz Festival takes concerts to historic spaces in Leiria

From June 13th to August 15th, Leiria is filled with jazz with the second edition of the Criajazz festival. The festival brings to the city names like Luis Ribeiro Sexteto, Flak and Rodrigo Amado, Mau, Mano a Mano and Bison’s Big Bang.

Five concerts at Castelo de Leiria and at Villa Portela make up the program for the second edition of Criajazz, a festival that offers a cross between the new jazz and Leiria values. Between June 13th and August 15th, the festival is divided between two emblematic spaces of the city: the newly created open-air auditorium of the Castle, and Villa Portela, consisting of a large green area and a 19th century chalet, in the downtown.

The initiative, carried out by the theater group “O Nariz”, counts on “young musicians and original projects”, in a bet on the “new jazz, which is the essence of Criajazz”, says one of the responsible for the project, Vitória Condeço . In addition to the formations at the beginning of their careers, “mainly linked to ESMAE”, the festival invites two duos already known in the national scene: guitarist Flak and saxophonist Rodrigo Amado, and the project Mano a Mano, by guitarists André Santos and Bruno Saints.

The Criajazz festival starts on June 13th with Luís Ribeiro Sexteto at Castelo de Leiria, a monument where Flak and Rodrigo Amaro also play on June 27th. At Villa Portela, the concerts are on July 11th and 25th, first with Mau, in partnership with the A Porta festival, and then with Bison’s Big Band. Mano a Mano closes the schedule on August 15 at Castelo de Leiria.

All concerts start at 7 pm and are free to enter.
