Guimarães has a strong cultural agenda in the coming months

From the emblematic Gil Vicente Festivals to Lufada, there are a number of cultural and artistic proposals to discover.

The arts are getting ready to rock the city of Guimarães over the next few months, with cultural proposals not to be missed. The Workshop has an intense and diversified program, highlighting the Gil Vicente and Lufada Festivals, among many other initiatives.

The cultural agenda opens with the performing arts, receiving the emblematic Gil Vicente Festivals that ignite the strong commitment of A Oficina for the months ahead, promoting music and visual arts with the launch of editions, film proposals and theater. All artistic activity will focus on the various cultural spaces managed by the Workshop, namely: Centro Cultural Vila Flor (CCVF), Centro Internacional das Artes José de Guimarães (CIAJG), Casa da Memória de Guimarães (CDMG) and Loja Oficina .

On June 1 – within the scope of World Children’s Day – The Workshop suggests the presentation of the show of the new circus CircOOnference, by the company Radar 360º, promoted in schools and institutions in the municipality. Considered an act of freedom in the reconstruction of the History of the Circus that was written and interpreted with elements of humor, laughter and poetry, the show is transversal to all generations, and it will be presented again on May 31, still in the same context . The day before, the show will be presented in the CCVF garden.

The agenda goes on to the Gil Vicente Festivals that take place from the 2nd to the 11th of June, disseminating the art of theater by CCVF and CIAJG, with an appointment always at 7:30 pm. According to the programmer, Rui Torrinha, the Festival intends to dedicate greater prominence to the new generations and to the valorization of new dramaturgies. Music will also be featured at the beginning of June, by the hands of pianist Joana Gama with The trees have no legs to walk, in a concert dedicated to young children that will be presented between the 4th and 25th of June in several schools in the municipality , also reserving the 14th and 15th for a training for teachers about the process of creating the show.

Moving on to the second half of June, The Workshop starts with a series of concerts that take place in the late afternoon (always at 7:30 pm) each Friday, providing moments of leisure in the CCVF gardens. Entrance is free and limited to the capacity of the space. On June 18, the pianist and composer Júlio Resende appears with an Ensemble from the Guimarães Orchestra for a show presented in the context of network programming, which has been developed by Quadrilátero Cultural.

On the 25th of June the long-awaited Lufada kicks off, which, after a sold-out first edition (in 2020) promises to provoke strong moments of decompression outdoors, over three weeks. Again in the late afternoon, the 25th of June and the 2nd and 9th of July are reserved concerts by the talent of the duo of Portuguese jazz musicians, Bruno Santos and Ricardo Toscano, who will present the project Backyard Sessions. It follows Bruno Pernadas who will mark the return to the editions with Private Reasons in a long awaited concert. Also noteworthy for Surma, who, in addition to her sweet voice and the paraphernalia of instruments to which she has already become accustomed, appears in the heart of the CCVF accompanied by João Hasselberg on bass and electronics and Pedro Melos Alves on drums and percussions. June still reserves time for visual arts, with the inauguration of Still There is Beauty, an exhibition of ceramics and textiles by Maria Carvalho, on the 19th.

In July, the theater will show itself again on the 3rd and 4th with four new creations by the Guimarães Gang promoted by PACT (Support Plan for Territorial Creation), with the signature of Manuela Ferreira, Rita Morais, Tânia Dinis and Gil Mac.

The next few months reserve several cultural and recreational proposals, namely training for teachers, artistic workshops for the youngest, guided tours of the exhibitions, projects involving schools and institutions in Guimarães and also the creative workshops for Summer Holidays: reserved for 12 the 16th of July). Remember that it is still possible to visit and discover the recently opened exhibitions of CIAJG, Palácio Vila Flor, Casa da Memória and Loja Oficina.
