QuebraJazz Arts Festival: two festivals unite for music in Coimbra

Festival das Artes and QuebraJazz joined together for a joint program, with classical and jazz concerts at Quinta das Lágrimas, in Coimbra. The initiative runs from July 19 to 27 with the theme “Other Worlds”.

Since 2012, QuebraJazz has been taking place on the Quebra Costas staircases. In 2019, he collaborated for the first time with the Festival of the Arts and, in 2020, due to the pandemic, the latter was canceled. This year they come together at Quinta das Lágrimas to fuse classical music and jazz. According to the organization, “this co-production of QuebraJazz and the Festival of the Arts takes on a larger dimension and will result in a broader sharing.”

The Initiative, which runs from July 19 to 27 on the theme “Other Worlds”, dedicates four days to classical music and another four days to jazz, opening a dialogue between the two musical genres, with a concert by American jazz guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel with the Matosinhos Jazz Orchestra.

From 20 to 23 July, there will be performances by Os Musicos do Tejo, Aga Khan Master Musicians, the Young Portuguese Orchestra and the Gulbenkian Orchestra, followed by concerts by Javier Colina, Perico Sambeat and Marc Miralta (as CMS Trio), the trio of Mário Laginha with the Englishman Julian Argueles and the Norwegian Helge Norbakken and the trio of Paulo Bandeira with Cristina Branco.
