The month of June continues the 2nd Edition of the Marathons cycle with the Orquestra Sem Fronteiras, which takes concerts to the Portuguese village of Belmonte. The next event takes place on June 19 and celebrates songwriter of the month, Fanny Mendelssohn. The Orchestra Without Borders project aims to combat the abandonment of musical education, the cultural promotion of the interior and support young talent from the Iberian streak.
The 2nd Edition of the cycle of Marathons with the Pocket Orchestra, featured several musical performances by the Orchestra Without Borders, in a total of 18 different spaces in Beira Interior that welcomed it with open arms. This edition wanted to reinforce the work of composer Rautavaara, who guided the motto of the month of May. In June, we are invited to honor pianist and composer Fanny Mendelssohn, on June 19, at a concert in Belmonte.
The final summary of Marathons with Pocket Orchestra will be presented in a documentary directed by Adriana Romero, which seeks to share the musical experience of this journey, in the project’s relationship with these populations.
In them, Pinhel, Fundão and Belmonte were the selected locations to receive the young musicians, who gave life to the national premiere of the works “Adagio Celeste” and “Divertimento”, among others. The initiative, which traveled throughout the interior of the national territory, also provided the resident populations with “Concerts to the conversation”, directed and presented by Martim Sousa Tavares.
The Orchestra Without Borders was created to expand access to culture in bordering areas of the interior, offering the possibility of attending free concerts, open rehearsals and educational activities for introducing music to local populations. Promoting the development of young talent in the interior, enticing them to stay in these places, also reinforces cross-border cooperation, with the collaboration of Portuguese musicians from Orquestra Sem Fronteiras with Spanish musicians.
The creation of the project also brings together the will to bring culture to the populations, enrich the economic and social system of the localities and contribute to the reduction of geographic asymmetries.
