    Fernando Pimenta becomes European vice-champion in K1 1,000

    The 31-year-old Benfica athlete still hasn’t missed a podium in the current Olympic cycle in K1 1,000 and 5,000, between Europeans, World Cups and World Cups.

    Portuguese Olympic canoeist Fernando Pimenta was yesterday vice-champion in Europe in K1 1.000, in Poznan, Poland, adding his 103rd international podium.


    On track four, alongside the Hungarian Balint Kopasz, one of his biggest rivals for medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the Limiano finished the race in 3,42,667 minutes, 1.435 seconds off the Magyar, with whom he discussed the lead throughout the race.

    The podium was completed by Belgian Artuur Peters, at 3.135 seconds.

    In Europeans, Fernando Pimenta was champion in 2016, 2017 and 2018, being bronze in 2011 and 2015.

    As for the Portuguese team, on Friday, João Ribeiro was vice-champion in Europe in K1 500, while Norberto Mourão won unprecedented gold in adapted canoeing, in VL2.
