Madeira Landscapes: “On the (im)permanence of the (is)land”, at the Baltazar Dias Municipal Theater

On July 28, at 6 pm, the visual essay On the (im)permanence of the (is)land, by Filipe Ferraz and Duarte Santo, will be presented at the Baltazar Dias Municipal Theater. At a crossroads between art, architecture and anthropology, the artists look at the landscape of Madeira Island in its eternal impermanence.

According to Duarte Santo, “the island is a reality with multiple layers where sets of vibrant materiality, material and immaterial, are reconfigured as assemblages of landscapes of human and non-human components. In a territory woven by visible and hidden liquidity, water becomes the medium through which we read the island of Madeira”

The work is part of the Resilience, Landscape and Art section of the Italian pavilion at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of the Bienal, which runs from May 22 to November 21, 2021.

Location: Baltazar Dias Municipal Theater, Funchal, Madeira

Time: July 28, at 6:00 pm
